Last updated 24 September 2026 — applies from The VERA Files 1.2, which added the Meta and Google ad-measurement SDKs described below. Published by Giray Batıtürk.
| Data | Why | Linked to you? |
|---|---|---|
| Product interaction (which case you opened, which choices you tapped, endings reached, time played, whether you left a case early) | Analytics. Understanding what works in the story. | No |
| Purchase history (whether the Case Pass was bought or restored) | Unlocking content, analytics. | No |
| Crash, performance and other diagnostic data | Finding and fixing bugs. | No |
| Meta ad-measurement events (app install/first open, app launch, Case Pass purchase) plus device and app information | Measuring which Meta ad campaigns lead to installs. | Only your advertising identifier, and only if you allow tracking |
| Google Analytics for Firebase automatic events (app install/first open, sessions, app updates, Case Pass purchase) plus device and app information | Measuring which Google ad campaigns lead to installs. | Only ad-related consent signals, and only if you allow tracking |
| Problem reports you send from Settings (your text plus the current case, screen and recent VERA lines) | Answering your report. | No, unless you include contact details in the text |
Analytics events carry a random installation identifier generated on your device. It is not tied to your Apple ID, device identifiers, contacts or location.
To improve the app we may record anonymised session replays of how the interface is used. Text fields, including anything you type to VERA, are masked before capture and never leave the device in readable form.
The VERA Files uses the Meta (Facebook) SDK for one purpose: measuring which Meta ads bring people to install the app. On every launch it automatically sends Meta standard events — app install/first open, app launch, and Case Pass purchase events — along with device and app information (device model, OS version, app version, SDK data). The app never sends Meta a custom event, and never sends the text you type to VERA, your case progress, or your in-game messages.
After the content note, Files shows a short explanation screen once, and then iOS asks whether it can track you (the App Tracking Transparency prompt). If you tap "Allow", your advertising identifier (IDFA) is included with the events above. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", no IDFA is sent and Meta only receives aggregated, privacy-preserving measurement (Aggregated Event Measurement / SKAdNetwork). The app works identically either way — your choice never unlocks or hides any case, and you can change it anytime in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. See Meta's data policy.
The VERA Files also uses Google Analytics for Firebase to measure which Google ads bring people to install the app. It automatically collects Firebase's standard events — app install/first open, app sessions, app updates, and Case Pass purchase events — plus device and app information. The app does not report screen names to Google, and never sends the text you type to VERA, your case progress, or your in-game messages.
The same App Tracking Transparency choice above controls Google's ad-related signals: if you tap "Allow", ad-related consent (ad storage, ad user data, ad personalization) is granted; if you choose "Ask App Not to Track", those signals stay off and only basic analytics consent is granted. See Google's data policy.
Exception: if you use "Report a problem" in Settings, the text you write there is sent to us exactly as written, since that is how we read and answer it.
We do not sell data. Meta and Google ad-measurement events are the only data shared with advertising companies, and only for the purpose described above.
The app may ask permission to send you a local notification when a new file is ready. The choice is optional, is made on the device, and can be changed any time in iOS Settings. No push server is involved.
The VERA Files is rated 17+ and is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
Anonymous analytics are kept for up to 12 months and then deleted. Because the data is not linked to you we cannot look up an individual's records. Problem reports you sent by email or from the app are deleted on request. You can stop all collection by deleting the app.
